High Street Services from Tuesday 29th March 2016

Following Newport Transport's survey of our customers regarding the use of High Street, Newport Transport would like to inform customers that from the above date (subject to Traffic Commissioners approval), the following services will operate via High Street, on their inbound journey only, before arriving at Newport Central Bus Station.

26A/26C St Julians services Monday - Saturday
19 Malpas Service Monday - Saturday (19E will not serve High Street)

On conducting the survey of nearly 3,000 regular bus users in Newport, it was found that 62.9% of customers of the 19 service, and 66.2% of 26A/26C customers, felt that the additional journey time to serve the High Street was acceptable. The stops at High Street will be for customers to alight from the services only. There will be no boarding at these stops.

As part of this arrangement the 6A Alway and 28B Caerleon services will continue to serve Queensway.

These services will operate via High Street on a trial basis for a minimum of 6 months. However, should passenger numbers on these services decline rapidly due to the extra journey time they will revert to original route.

As part of the 6 month trial, customers will continue to be surveyed to ensure the continued support of this diversion remains. Passenger numbers alighting at theses stops will also be recorded to identify actual numbers using the High Street stop.

Following discussions with Newport City Council, it has been agreed that they would support action being taken against illegal parking in High Street to ensure the safety of driving staff, customers and pedestrians.

Once approval has been made by the Traffic Commissioner new timetables will be made available online and in our Travel Centre.

Newport Transport would like to thank the customers who took the time to be involved in the survey, and its wider customer base for their continued support and loyalty.
