It's easy, quick, and convenient. After downloading the app, you can create an account by simply providing your name and email address. To purchase tickets, you will need to verify your email address by responding to the automated email.

Tickets and Prices

You can purchase day and multi-day tickets for Zone 1 Newport, Zone 2 Cardiff and Cwmbran, Chepstow Town and the Forest of Dean area. Our Zone 2 tickets are also valid on Cardiff Bus Route 30, so you don't have to worry about which operator to use for your journey.

To get the best value, we recommend purchasing weekly or 4-weekly tickets. Alternatively, you can consider the new app-only Trio and Trio Plus tickets. Trio is a bundle of three City Day tickets that can be used in Newport, while Trio Plus is a bundle of three City Day Plus tickets for travel to Cardiff or Cwmbran. 

All tickets are available for adults over 16, children aged 5-15, and youths aged 16-21 with a MyTravelPass card. 

Single tickets are not currently available on the Newport Bus app; however, if you register your bank card on the app, you can track all your contactless journeys on the app.

How to buy a ticket

To buy a ticket, tap "Tickets" at the bottom of the screen, then tap "Get Tickets". To select your ticket, you can scroll down or filter by ticket type if you prefer.

If you're buying for someone else, you can gift the ticket to them using the Newport Bus app. At the checkout screen, tap Gift "This ticket is for you" and enter their registered email address.  

The ticket will be sent to the inbox and you will need to download it onto your phone before you travel. 

Please note that the ticket validity starts once you've downloaded it. You need to activate the ticket on the phone you'll use to travel on the bus. When boarding the bus, show the active ticket on your phone screen and place the QR code on the ticket machine reader. Please don't take a screenshot of the active ticket QR code or email receipt, as these will not be accepted.

If you are travelling with someone else, you can purchase multiple tickets and show each active ticket on the bus ticket machine.  

Tickets can also be purchased in advance as they do not expire on the inbox of the app. Their validity starts once they are downloaded. 

You can do more with the Newport Bus app

Using the Newport Bus app, you can access a range of features that enhance your bus travel experience. 

Firstly, you can view the bus timetable for specific bus stops, so you will always know the exact time the bus will arrive at your stop. You can also track the bus in real time to see when it's due to arrive at your stop. This feature is particularly beneficial if you're running late or want to avoid waiting in the rain or cold weather.

Secondly, you can track the bus's progress through the app. This feature provides real-time updates on the bus's location or even at the previous or later stops so you can plan your journey accordingly.
