Working for the Community

At Newport Transport, we understand the importance of your community. As the main public transport provider of the city of Newport, South Wales, we are committed to serving the various communities in the local area, being sports, arts, education and charities.

Here are some of the activities we have been taking part in:

Special Training

Our bus drivers are ever so present within the community and are witnesses to the day-to-day life of the city and surrounding towns. As part of their role, they drive everyone and anyone around without exception. As a company, it, therefore, felt right to provide them with specific training.

Driver with Dementia-Friendly badge

Supporting the most vulnerable: all our driving staff are provided with dementia awareness training, working in partnership with the Gwent Regional Partnership Board and the Dementia Friends programme, and lead to the company being recognised as a dementia-friendly organisation.

We are also working with Newport Mind in providing training for 6 members of staff to be certified Mental Health First Aiders to support their colleagues and raise awareness of the importance of looking after their mental health.

For many years, Newport Transport has been fundraising for local charities through our company charity events and donations to Newport food bank The Trussell Trust and setting warm clothing collection points for Pride In Pill.

In 2021, we are working with Pride In Pill towards their Christmas Toys Appeal, bringing a smile to children in hospital this Christmas.

For the last three years, our staff has chosen for our annual Christmas jumper/raffle week the mental health charity Newport Mind, for which we have raised over £2000 so far. This event has been gaining momentum thanks to the support from our suppliers and local companies who have provided valuable and desirable gifts. We would like to thank in particular Authentically Welsh, Dragons Rugby, Like An Egg Productions, Newport City FC, Newport Live, Pelican Engineering, Pennine Signs, Urban Things, Zenobe Energy.

Newport City Football Club logo

Newport Bus is proud to appear on the football jerseys as one of the main sponsors to the ladies teams of Newport City Football Club, the football club for the city of Newport. In 2019/20, we were delighted to start our sponsorship with Newport City FC Under-16 Girls who went on to win the South Wales league, in their first season playing as a team. Well done girls, this is a great achievement!

For the 2021/22 season, we will continue our partnership with Newport City FC, extending our support to all teams.

In the last 3 seasons, Newport City FC has seen tremendous growth. Starting as a standalone 1st team, the club is now the proud home to over 100 players from Under-5s through to senior level. The women's team has gone from strength to strength and for the coming season, we will now have 2 competitive sides in action. The club has the huge ambition to provide football for all age groups, female and male players and provide opportunities for coaches/volunteers to develop and gain qualifications.

The support we provide as Newport Bus and with other local companies is essential for the club to continue its journey to becoming the biggest club in the City within the FAW Pyramid.

To go and give them your support, you can check the upcoming fixtures and events here. Home - Newport City FC

The home ground for the club is at Newport City Stadium, part of Newport International Sports Village complex (Bus route 42/43, X74 - Stop Spytty Road Park), where you can watch the first team play. However, all other sections including the fantastic Newport City FC Ladies are playing at Newport Tredegar Park, easily accessible by bus routes 35, 37 or 30 Stop Tredegar Park.

Friends of Newport Rugby

For many years, we have also shown support to the Friends of Newport Rugby Trust, giving visibility to the Black and Amber rugby team around the streets of Newport. People of Newport could not miss our two striking single deck buses, cleverly painted black and amber for Newport RFC. As extra support to the rugby fans, we also offer free Newport Bus tickets to and from Rodney Parade stadium to Newport RFC Season Tickets holders – you can get yours here. Newport Transport is also a member of the Friends of Newport Transporter Bridge. For full details and beautiful photos of this iconic bridge across the River Usk, take a look at their social media page here. The bridge is currently closed until 2023.  A major project to refurbish the bridge and build a new visitor centre is currently underway.
