Youth Passport Card

If you are between 16 and 21, you can save money on your bus fares by using our Youth Passport card. Use it to purchase a discounted weekly, 4-weekly or annual pass or as a contactless payment card (once topped up) for discounted youth tickets on the Newport Bus network.

With Newport Bus Youth Travel Card, you can purchase on the bus a discounted weekly or 4-weekly travel tickets or Pay-As-You-Go credit. For an annual pass, you will need to visit the Newport Bus depot office.

Fill the PDF form and email it to Customer Support together with a passport-size photo and a scan of your proof of age. You can also hand it in at the Travel centre or Newport Bus depot on Corporation Road. Your proof of age can be a birth certificate, passport or ID card - We do not keep your proof of age, we only need to see it. Your card will be posted to you free of charge.

What are the discounted fares?


Why do we need the Newport Bus Youth Passport?

Customers who are between the ages of 16 and 21 need this card, or the Welsh Government MyTravelPass, to receive discounted fares for their bus travel on the Newport Bus network. MyTravelPass (MTP) offers discounted travel across the whole o Wales. Apply for MyTravelPass here  My Travel Pass website

You will need to present the Youth Passport card or the MyTravelPass card if you purchase Youth tickets on the Newport Bus app.

I already have a Passport or Passport Plus, what will happen to my credit?

Once you have completed the application form and provided both a photo and proof of age we transfer your credit to the Youth Passport. You will receive your discounted travel on your next top-up.

What is the difference between the Youth Passport and the Welsh Government MyTravelPass?

The Newport Bus Youth Passport is valid on the Newport Bus network only and you can use it as a Pay-as-you-go card or purchase weekly and 4-weekly tickets. MyTravelPass is proof of entitlement to discounted bus travel across Wales. 

How do I top up the Youth Passport?

You can top up with a week or 4-week tickets or £50 maximum on a bus. 

I am paying with cash on the bus do I still need the pass?

Yes. Please show the driver your Youth Passport or MyTravelPass before tendering your money to receive a youth ticket. The driver can then see you are eligible for a youth fare. This also applies when travelling with a Youth ticket purchased on the Newport Bus app.

What do I need to provide to get the pass?

Your name, Date of Birth, address, a recent passport-sized photograph and proof of age

Why do I have to provide a photograph?

The photo is essential for bus drivers to verify quickly that you are the cardholder.

When does the Youth Passport Expire?

The Youth Passport and any tickets remaining on your card will expire on your 22nd Birthday.

What can I buy after my 21st birthday?

On your 22nd birthday, you are eligible to purchase one of our Adult Passport products.
