With the Coleg Gwent bus pass scheme you may be able to get discounted travel. It has a few different elements to it as follows:

  • with ‘Local Authority support’ - is a government-funded bus pass and is available for those aged 16-18 who live over the allocated distance. If you live in Newport, you can apply on Newport City Council here School transport | Newport City Council or call 01633 656656 for more information. If you live in Monmouthshire, you can apply with the Monmouthshire council here School Transport - Monmouthshire or call 01633 644644 for more information.
  • With ‘Learner contribution’- You will have the option of £1 per single journey if supported by the local authority or £1.50 per single journey if not supported by the local authority- this is paid on the bus. 

To apply for your pass, you will need to contact Coleg Gwent directly - Transport and Travel - Coleg Gwent or call on 01495 333777 - Please note that this is strictly a Coleg Gwent scheme, Newport Bus will not be able to issue a pass. 

The Coleg Gwent Pass is valid alongside the Welsh Government 'MyTravelPass'. They are valid for travel between 07:00 and 21:00 Monday to Friday. A single ticket is issued for onward travel if they are boarding within 90 minutes of purchasing the original ticket.

MyTravelPass allows you to save approximately 30% on all bus travel in Wales if you’re between the ages of 16-21. You can apply for one here: mytravelpass.gov.wales or call 03002 002233.
