Somerton Road Closure from 8 June 2026

Somerton Road will be closed between Chepstow Road and Somerton Bridge from Monday 8 June 2026 for approximately 9 weeks.
As a result there will be some changes to buses as follows:
Route 5 Newport -Magor
This service will remain on Chepstow Road between Maindee and Hawthorne Avenue. It will not serve Wharf Road, Corporation Road and Cromwell Road.
Routes 74 and routes74A & 74C
These services will operate as normal to Maindee then via Wharf Road, Corporation Road and Cromwell Road to resume the normal route at Somerton Road/Nash Road. Towards Newport they will operate the reverse of the above. Stops between Eveswell Primary School and Beechwood Park will not be served.
Route SJ4
This service will operate as normal to the bottom of Beechwood Road then right onto Chepstow Road then Wharf Road and Corporation Road to resume the normal route at the Corporation Hotel. Cromwell Road will not be served. Cromwell will continue to be served by route SJ5. The afternoon journey will operate the reverse of the morning journey.
Route YGI3
This service will operate as normal to the bottom of Beechwood Road then left onto Chepstow Road then Aberthaw Road, Balfe Road and the Southern Distributor Road to resume the normal route at Spytty Park Footbridge. Bus stops on Somerton Road and Nash Road not be served. The afternoon journey will follow the same route.

Changes to road closure information from 27 June 2026
Following the original information provided by Gloucestershire County Council, we had planned for the route and timetable of service 69 to return to normal from Saturday 27 June 2026. In the afternoon of 26 June 2026 it was confirmed that the road closure would continue to 17 July 2026.
Unfortunately, we are not in a position where we can simply continue the temporary timetable. The revised timetable uses additional staff and vehicles however we have tried to ensure we maintain a service as best as possible, and in particular ensuring the four journeys that serve the schools at Monmouth and Chepstow
The following arrangements will apply
Saturday 27 June 2026
The temporary timetable will remain with buses diverting via Clearwell and Newland. Click here for the timetable.

From Monmouth
07:40 will depart at 07:32 and use the current diversion (via Clearwell and Newland)
09:15 will depart at 09:00 and use the current diversion (via Clearwell and Newland)
10:31 will start at Bigsweir Bridge. It will not serve Monmouth, Wyesham or Redbrook.
11:10 will divert via Trellech to St Arvans. It will not serve Wyesham, Redbrook, Llandogo or Tintern.
12:31 will start at Bigsweir Bridge. It will not serve Monmouth, Wyesham or Redbrook.
13:10 will divert via Trellech to St Arvans. It will not serve Wyesham, Redbrook, Llandogo or Tintern.
14:31 will start at Bigsweir Bridge. It will not serve Monmouth, Wyesham or Redbrook.
