Newport Bus and Newport County Partner to Dedicate Electric EV to David Hando B.E.M

Newport Bus have partnered with Newport County to dedicate EV to Newport Legend, David Hando B.E.M commemorating his memory two years since his passing.  

In January, both Newport Bus and Newport County invited David’s family to attend Rodney Parade to visit the honorary bus, taking photographs and sharing stories about David, remembering his instrumental work in and around Newport. 

"David Hando BEM was a well-known son of the City of Newport, born on the 7th April 1938. David lived the majority of his life in the city of his birth, and he dedicated most of that time serving Newport and its people. A family man, David and his wife Mary had 3 sons and 6 grandsons who all still live locally." 

David Jenkins, Newport Bus Managing Director said, “as local bus providers for the City of Newport, our intention is to ensure David's legacy travels far and wide, as we operate our bus services throughout Newport and in other South Wales regions, by naming a bus, fleet number ‘Z40’ in his honour.” 

Jonathan Wilsher, Newport County COO Said “Newport County is honoured to see Newport Bus dedicate a bus to the late David Hando, our former chairman and a true club legend. David’s unwavering dedication and passion for the club was instrumental in shaping its history, and his legacy will forever be a part of Newport County. This tribute is a fitting way to celebrate his incredible contributions to both the club and the wider community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Newport Bus for recognising his impact in such a meaningful way."

This dedication could not be made possible without the help and guidance of David's family, who, rightly so, want to ensure that David is remembered for his accomplishments, his commitment to the community and his love of all things Newport.

Bus Z40, now titled ‘David Hando, B.E.M’ will serve all Newport estates, also travelling further afield reaching our rural areas in Monmouth, Chepstow, Abergavenny, Hereford, Forest of Dean and more.
