27th December
The eyes of the horse racing world will be on Chepstow for the course’s biggest fixture of the year – Coral Welsh Grand National day. This historic Chepstow event attracts some of the finest long-distance chasers to the premier racecourse in Wales to vie for the big prize.
The roll of honour of winners of this great race carries some very special names and features some who have gone on to win the Grand National itself at Aintree, including Silver Birch, Bindaree and Earth Summit. The last two winners – Potters Corner and Secret Reprieve – were trained in Wales by Christian Williams and Evan Williams respectively.
Welsh National day at Chepstow is always a special occasion. The combination of a big crowd, a prestigious race and lingering seasonal cheer ensures that it’s the perfect choice if you’re looking for things to do, or a family fun day out, straight after Christmas.
We’ll have extra facilities available to ensure you enjoy this fabulous festive day of horse racing at Chepstow.
Welsh National Anthem
A tradition as old as the Welsh Grand National. The national anthem of Wales will be sung prior to the running of the feature race by Rebecca Evans CBE and Shan Cothi.
Rebecca Evans CBE is a Welsh operatic soprano and Grammy award-winning singer from Pontrhydyfen.
Shan Cothi is a Welsh singer-songwriter, television and radio presenter from Ffarmers.
