DRT - Demand Responsive Transport

Newport Bus offers a Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) service for the rural areas in the south of Newport, allowing people to manage appointments and work schedules and connections with local bus services. The DRT service uses small buses with wheelchair access, equipped with the same bus ticketing system as the fixed line service.

The three Newport Bus DRT services operate Monday to Saturday (except bank holidays) between 7:30 and 18:30. The service only runs when a customer has booked transportation for the cost of a standard bus fare (Welsh Concessionary Entitlement Cards are accepted.). They cover the following areas:

  • DRT 31: Marshfield - St Brides - Castleton -  See map here
  • DRT 62: Bishton - Redwick - Llanwern Village - See map here
  • DRT 63: Goldcliff - Whitson - Nash - See map here

You will need to book by phoning 01633 211 202 or 01633 670 563. It's best to book in advance up to 4 pm the day before for Tuesday to Saturday bookings, and by 4 pm the previous Friday for Monday bookings. You can book up to two weeks in advance and book multiple trips at the same time. Please note that other passengers may be booked on at same time as you.

At the time of booking, we will agree with you the time, the pick-up and the drop-off points . Within the specific zone, the pick-up and drop-off points usually are the closest to the customer's location. Outside the zone, the pick-up and drop-off points are fixed as follows:

Pick-up/Drop-off points outside each DRT zones

DRT 31 serves Newport Bus Station (Market Square), Asda Duffryn, Harlech Retail Park, Royal Gwent Hospital, Tredegar Park, Brynderwen Surgery (St Mellons) and Castleton Post Office for connection with the Cardiff to Newport 30 service.

DRT 62 serves Newport Bus Station (Market Square), Spytty Retail Park, and Ringland Circle.

DRT 63 serves Newport Bus Station (Market Square), and Newport Retail Park (Spytty).

The DRT minibus does not stop at the bus stops between the DRT zone and the fixed pick-up and drop-off points in Newport. It is a direct service to and from the more rural parts of the city and Newport. However, the DRT service will travel to and from any point within its zone. See examples below.

Examples:

You can go anywhere within the zone e.g. Lighthouse Park to Marshfield, Redwick to RSBP Wetlands

You can travel to or from anywhere in the zone to or from the fixed points outside the zone e.g. Peterstone to Asda, or Newport to Marshfield. Llanwern Village to Newport, or Ringland to Llanwern.

The only journeys that are unavailable are directly between the fixed points e.g. Newport to Asda, Newport Retail Park to Market square. Use one of our other buses for these journeys.
