Changes to fares and tickets

We're making some changes to our fares

Most fares will increase by an average of 6.44% across a range of tickets from 29 March 2026.

The changes come almost 13 months after the company’s previous fare adjustment in 2025 and reflect ongoing increases in operational costs.

What the changes mean for customers

Adult single fares across the network will increase by an average of 14p, while equivalent day tickets will rise by an average of 55p.

Despite the increase, regular customers will continue to benefit from some of the best value fares available. Weekly ticket holders can access the Zone 1 network from as little as £3.28 per day, while four-weekly customers can travel from as little as £2.45 per day, offering significant savings compared to single and day ticket purchases.

You can find full details of new prices and revised tickets at our new fares pages.

Trio and TrioPlus price freeze!

To support customers during this period, Newport Bus will freeze prices on its popular app-only fare bundles, Trio and Trio Plus, until 31 May 2026. These packages allow customers to purchase three day tickets in a single transaction, offering savings of more than 20% compared with buying individual day tickets during this period with the Trio (three City Day tickets) priced at £13 and Trio Plus (three City Day Plus tickets) priced at £16.

These bundles continue to provide flexible, discounted travel for occasional and part-time bus users. Following this freeze tickets will be priced at £14.50 (three City Day tickets) and £17.50 (three City Day Plus tickets).

Improvements based on customer feedback

Alongside the fare changes, several updates are being introduced in response to customer feedback:

  • Zone 2 boundary extension: The eastern boundary of Zone 2 will be extended to Magor, Penhow and Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel, meaning more stops will now fall within the Zone 2 fare area.
  • New Cwmbran Zone.  New tickets for journeys that do not cross the fare boundary in Cwmbran. Travel to and from Cwmbran and Newport will continue to be in the CityPlus zone.
  • ‘Rover’ Dog Day Ticket: A new day ticket for dogs (excluding assistance dogs), allowing unlimited travel for the day rather than paying a single fare for each journey.
  • Simplified fares between Magor, Caldicot and Chepstow to better align these fares to other Monmouthshire services. Some fares will reduce by 5p-15p whilst others will increase.

These changes are designed to make fares simpler, fairer, and better aligned with how customers use the network.

Morgan Stevens, Newport Transport’s Managing Director, said “At Newport Bus, we remain committed to offering our customers the best possible value, with our last two fare changes taking place 13 months after the previous adjustment. However, despite taking steps to mitigate, we continue to face rising operational costs, including increased parts supply expenses, higher labour costs, and longer journey times across our network. As a result, we have made the decision to adjust fares at this time. As a locally owned and operated company, all fare revenue is reinvested into maintaining and improving our comprehensive network of services. These changes will help us protect the services our customers rely on.”
