Fares are Changing from 2nd March 2025

From the 2nd March 2025 our range of fares in Newport, Cwmbran, Cardiff and Risca will increase by an average of 6.86%. However, tickets for frequent travellers purchasing weekly and 4 weekly tickets will see fares represent even better value.
The new fare increase means that the single journey within Newport Bus zone 1 area will now cost £2.50 and the adult all-day ticket will cost £5.00 for unlimited travel. Regular users that purchase weekly tickets will have access to the zone 1 network from as little as £2.95 per day and 4 weekly customers from as little as £2.21. The same Youth and Child (Bamboo) tickets are increasing by 3.77% and 3.25% respectively.
David Jenkins, Newport Transport’s Finance Director and interim Managing Director explains: “Whilst it has been 13 months since our previous fare changes in February 2024, we are having to revisit fares. Along with the planned increase in National Insurance contributions from April 2025, that also affect 3rd party suppliers, we are faced with unavoidable rising operational costs across our services. As a result, we have had to make the difficult decision to adjust fares to ensure the continued sustainability and reliability of our bus network. As a local company these changes reflect the necessary balance between maintaining service standards for our passengers and investments in our fleet, staff and technology whilst responding to the increased financial pressures. We are committed to providing affordable and accessible public transport, and this fare increase is a direct response to the broader economic environment that affects our operation.”
In recent years and throughout the covid pandemic Newport Bus invested in providing alternative ticketing solutions for customers including contactless ticket machines, where you can use bank cards and apple or android payments, and their mobile app where you can purchase tickets and track your bus in real time.
