      Today 00:01 - 2nd Aug 2026

      Somerton Road will be closed between Chepstow Road and Somerton Bridge from Monday 8 June 2026 for approximately 9 weeks.

      As a result there will be some changes to buses as follows:

      Route 5 Newport -Magor

      This service will remain on Chepstow Road between Maindee and Hawthorne Avenue. It will not serve Wharf Road, Corporation Road and Cromwell Road.

      Routes 74 and routes74A & 74C

      These services will operate as normal to Maindee then via Wharf Road, Corporation Road and Cromwell Road to resume the normal route at Somerton Road/Nash Road. Towards Newport they will operate the reverse of the above. Stops between Eveswell Primary School and Beechwood Park will not be served.

      Route SJ4

      This service will operate as normal to the bottom of Beechwood Road then right onto Chepstow Road then Wharf Road and Corporation Road to resume the normal route at the Corporation Hotel. Cromwell Road will not be served. Cromwell will continue to be served by route SJ5. The afternoon journey will operate the reverse of the morning journey.

      Route YGI3

      This service will operate as normal to the bottom of Beechwood Road then left onto Chepstow Road then Aberthaw Road, Balfe Road and the Southern Distributor Road to resume the normal route at Spytty Park Footbridge. Bus stops on Somerton Road and Nash Road not be served. The afternoon journey will follow the same route.

      4th - 18th Jun 2026

      From 4 June-18 June, Caradoc Road in Cwmbran (just off Morrisons Roundabout towards Cwmbran Bus Station) will be closed from the beginning to end of service everyday affecting routes 29/A and 63.

      During this time, route 29/29A will operate their normal routes to Cwmbran, however will be unable to serve Llantarnam Grange bus stop during its outbound journey. Any college students will need to alight the bus at Cwmbran Bus Station.

      Route 63 will need to divert via Tudor Road when traveling to Cwmbran Bus Station which will not affect the service, however may add 5 minutes to the journey. Route 63 outbound to Pontypool will operate as normal.

      From 4 June-18 June, Caradoc Road in Cwmbran (just off Morrisons Roundabout towards Cwmbran Bus Station) will be closed from the beginning to end of service everyday affecting routes 29/A and 63.
